National University System Names Kevin Casey as President of College of Oceaneering

La Jolla, CA - National University System Chancellor Dr. Jerry C. Lee has named Mr. Kevin Casey as President of the Los Angeles Harbor-based College of Oceaneering (COO).

Previously, Mr. Casey served for six years as vice president for administration and business at National University. He has worked with COO since The National University System acquired it in January 2002. The non-profit community college, which is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, provides Associate of Science degrees in marine technology. It operates within the National University System as a separate but affiliated entity.

Mr. Casey's professional experience in higher education includes positions at Catholic University and Gallaudet University, where he served as director of computer services prior to joining National University in 1995. A former employee of General Electric and the Bunker Ramo Corporation, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and a Master of Science degree in applied mechanics from Catholic University of America, and a Master of Science degree in computer science from the University of Maryland.

The College of Oceaneering (COO) is a non-profit institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE). It is approved by the United States Department of Education to participate in Title IV Student Financial Assistance Programs, approved by the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) for international student enrollment, and approved to enroll veterans for the purpose of receiving educational benefits.

Founded 1967, COO has educated more than 8,500 students and graduates close to 300 entry-level professionals per year in the fields of hyperbaric medical technology, non-destructive testing technology, underwater welding technology, and marine technologies. Its Los Angeles Harbor facility is considered one of the most respected diver training centers in the world, educating a educating a workforce that is in high demand among offshore energy exploration, marine development industries and engineering firms throughout the world. It is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges, the American Council on Education, the International Diving Schools Association, the American Welding Society, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technologists, the Historical Diving Society and the Association of Diving Contractors.
