National University System Management Group
The System Management Group is responsible for identifying and acquiring new institutions, while managing and coordinating the System’s current institutions, and guiding the strategic direction of the System.
Officers of the System Management Group
The System Management Group is comprised of various officials, who all report directly to the Chancellor, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of this group.
Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, Chancellor, National University System
Dr. Michael R. Cunningham joined the National University System on July 1, 2013 as President of the System’s flagship institution, National University; and he was named Chancellor of the National University System effective October 10, 2013.
Dan Devine, Chief Operating Officer
Daniel J. Devine joined National University in November 2016 and currently serves as chief operating officer, focusing on performance management in the areas of operations, enrollment services, and marketing. Devine has over 25 years of experience in senior management finance and operating positions. Prior to joining National University, he served as executive vice president/chief financial officer of Bridgepoint Education. He held several management positions, culminating in his position as chief financial officer at A-Life Medical, Mitchell International Inc., and Foster Wheeler Corporation. Devine earned a B.A. from Drexel University and is a certified public accountant.
Chris Graham, Vice Chancellor, External Relations
Chris Graham oversees all aspects of alumni relations, public relations, career services, government relations, and corporate and community involvement for the National University System. His expertise in business development, sponsorship programs, and education initiatives have strengthened the System’s network of over 150,000 alumni. Additionally, Graham oversees and facilitates the System’s educational partnerships with organizations such as AMN Healthcare and the San Diego Zoo to provide education and scholarship opportunities to community members. Prior to joining National University, he held senior-level positions in external relations at San Diego State University. Mr. Graham holds an MBA and B.A. from San Diego State University.
Christopher Krug, Chief Information Officer
Christopher Krug oversees all aspects of information technology operations for the National University System, serving students, faculty, and staff, which encompasses planning, training, business systems, infrastructure, policy, and security. He earned a master’s degree in cyber security and information assurance from National University, which is the first and only university in San Diego to be recognized by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in cognitive science from the University of California San Diego.
Dave Lawrence, Vice Chancellor, Finance
Dr. Dave Lawrence brings extensive experience in the field of educational finance to his role as vice chancellor of finance for the National University System. He comes to NUS from Pacific Union College in Northern California where he was vice president for financial administration and chief financial officer. Prior to PUC, he held the role of controller at Loma Linda University and taught accounting and finance for over 10 years at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Lawrence received his doctorate of education from La Sierra University in educational leadership and administration with a concentration in educational finance. He also has an MBA from California State University San Bernardino and an Ed.S. from La Sierra University. He completed his undergraduate work at West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica.
Adriana Cabré, Vice Chancellor, Human Resources
Vice Chancellor of Human Resources Adriana Cabré draws from over 20 years of experience in the areas of organizational effectiveness, talent management, and HR operations and compliance. Serving in senior leadership roles across diverse industries including healthcare, bio-pharmaceutical, and high-tech industries, she led HR efforts for over a decade at Motorola Inc., a multinational telecommunications company, and most recently held the position of senior vice president of human resources at MedImpact Healthcare Systems Inc. Cabré taught courses in the field of human resources at UCSD Extension and serves on the board of Father Joe’s Villages and the California Diversity Council. She received a B.A. from Duquesne University and completed an MBA at Nova Southeastern University.
Seth Odell, Vice Chancellor, Marketing
Seth Odell brings more than 10 years of integrated marketing experience to his role as vice chancellor of marketing in the National University System. He started his educational marketing career at UCLA, where he worked at the cutting edge of digital marketing in the early days of social media. As a member of the senior marketing team at Southern New Hampshire University, he helped the institution grow from 7,000 to 70,000 students in just four years. In addition, Odell founded Higher Ed Live, the industry’s first and only live weekly web show network, a startup he launched and exited in just over two years. Seth received a B.A. in Public Communications from College of Saint Rose and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University.
Susan Morrow, Vice Chancellor of Innovation
Susan Morrow is the Vice Chancellor of Innovation for National University System where she is responsible for technology and process innovations to improve student outcomes and program affordability. Previously, she was the Chief Operating Officer of UniversityNow (UNow), the social impact parent of Patten University, offering self-paced online degree programs with an affordable, pay-as-you-go tuition model. Prior to UNow, Susan co-founded and served as SVP of Product for One University Network, where she led efforts to deliver accredited degree programs on mobile devices in emerging economies. She previously launched the digital revitalization of Reading Rainbow, served as a development executive of a $110M+ project for Pearson Education, and led product divisions for Leapfrog, Blurb, and Adobe/Macromedia. In her 15+ years of executive and product leadership, Susan has built, optimized, and brought to market several global SaaS products and platforms, mobile experiences, curricula and content, and hard goods products. She earned her BA from Bryn Mawr College with highest honors in English and her MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business with a concentration in Social Innovation and Public Management.
