Dr. Judy Mantle, Dean of the Sanford College of Education joins leaders in PreK-6 education to showcase innovative advancements in social emotional learning; National University System’s Sanford Harmony program is the nation’s fastest-growing social emotional learning program
NUS is scaling national and global partnerships to advance the Sanford Harmony SEL program, a PreK-6 social emotional learning program that teaches mutual respect through activities focused on communication and collaboration. Dr. Steven Ross, professor and evaluation director of Johns Hopkins University Center for Research and Reform in Education will share results of their evaluation of Sanford Harmony’s ease of implementation at the following panel: Demonstrating Social-Emotional Learning in Grades PreK-6 Pupils and Concurrently for Their Teachers Through Impactful University-School Showcase Partnerships, on April 10th at 11 a.m. in Gaslamp C Room, 2nd Floor Seaport Tower.

Speaking about the integration of Sanford Harmony in school and after-school programs, will be Dr. Judy Mantle, who oversees the support of Sanford Harmony by National University’s Sanford College of Education. The college was named in honor of Mr. Sanford and is now the 10th largest education school in the country, preparing more teachers than any other university in the state of California, based on numbers of credentials recommended.
Featured guest speakers at panels hosted by Sanford Harmony and the National University System include: Dr. Marc Brackett, Founding Director of the YALE Center for Emotional Intelligence, YALE/RULER; Dr. Heather J. Clawson, Chief Program and Innovation Officer, Communities in Schools National Office; Dr. Frances Gipson, Chief Academic Officer at Los Angeles Unified School District; Eric Gurna, President and CEO of LA’s BEST Afterschool Enrichment Program; Kathy Higgins, CEO of Alliance for a Healthier Generation; John Gomperts, President andCEO of America’s Promise Alliance; and David Adams, Director of SEL, The Urban Assembly.
These panels on social emotional learning are part of the broader participation of NUS leadership at ASU+GSV. Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, Chancellor of the National University System, will be a featured presenter on a panel titled Bending the Arc of Human Potential Through Radical Scaled Online Learning Models where he will highlight NUS initiatives that are being expanded nationally, like Sanford Harmony, as part of a wide-ranging commitment to better society.
The research-based Sanford Harmony program, which is available at no cost to schools and organizations, has been recognized as a quality SELect program by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). Sanford Harmony, which was inspired by philanthropist T. Denny Sanford is currently reaching more than 6.5 million students in some of the nation’s largest school districts including Los Angeles, New York and San Diego.
The ASU + GSV Summit started in 2010 as a collaboration between Arizona State University (ASU) and Global Silicon Valley (GSV). It is now the industry catalyst for elevating dialog and driving action around raising learning and career outcomes through scaled innovation.
